Mercosur: Challenges and Perspectives for the Future

Mercosur, the Southern Common Market, is an economic bloc that has played a fundamental role in the economic and political integration of South America since its creation in 1991. Currently composed of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay as full members, the bloc has faced significant challenges over the years but also sees opportunities for the future.
History and Objectives of Mercosur
Mercosur was established by the Treaty of Asunción in 1991 with the goal of promoting free trade and the flow of goods, people, and capital among member countries. Since then, the bloc has sought to create a common market, similar to the European Union, though with its own regional particularities and challenges.
In addition to full members, Mercosur includes associate countries such as Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Guyana, and maintains ongoing dialogue to expand its commercial and political borders.
